Services

Alpine Township offers the following services to its residents.

Address Markers

Reflective address markers are available through the Township Fire Department. The green markers with white numbers can be ordered with a steel post, or without if you are installing the sign on an existing mailbox post. The signs can be picked up or arrangements for installation by a Fire Department volunteer may be requested. The cost for the marker is $15 (with or without the post).

Boater and Hunter Safety Classes

Deputy Ertle conducts these free classes periodically.  See the Police Service page for information.

Bus Transportation

Alpine contracts with the Inter-Urban Transportation System (ITP). Fixed route service originates from Grand Rapids, into Walker, and then serves areas of Alpine Avenue, Alpenhorn Drive (York Creek and Alpine Slopes Apartments), Lamoreaux Drive (southern edge of the Westgate sub-division) and then back on Alpine Avenue. For route times and maps, see ITP's Web site. In addition to fixed route bus service, any Alpine Township senior or person with special needs is eligible for GO!Bus services. GO!Bus provides door-to-door transportation services by appointment. A one-time application must be filed prior to making an appointment. Alpine subsidizes those services with Community Development and General Fund money. A map of Alpine's route is available.

Cemetery Reservations

Alpine owns three cemeteries (see Township Properties for pictures and addresses). The fee for Alpine residents and their immediate family members is $150 per site; a non-resident's fee is $250. The Clerk is responsible for cemetery records, grave sales, rules and burial arrangements. Please contact the Clerk's Office for information. For weekend burials, please contact the Clerk at (616) 784-9667.

Compost Disposal

The 2007 Fall Leaf Pick-Up dates are Wednesdays, October 31st, November 7th, 14th, and 21st.  All platted areas of the Township, including Westgate, Brambleberry Estates, Wahlfield Plat, and areas south of Lamoreaux and east of Alpine are eligible. Bags and tags can be purchased from the Township Offices during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. They can also be purchased at the Alpine Branch Library when the Township offices are closed. Bags and tags are available at $1 each or eleven for $10. For information about composting in your own yard, contact the Township Offices (616-784-1262). This service is currently contracted through Rosendall Disposal.

Dog Licenses

The Treasurer's Office handles dog licensing for Alpine Township.

Neighborhood Watch

The Neighborhood Watch can be helpful in preventing crime in our Township by dispatching alerts about possible safety concerns. See the Police Service page for information.

Voter Registrations and Information

Prospective voters may register to vote at any local City or Township Office, Social Security Agency or the Secretary of State's Office. A form can be downloaded from the Secretary of State's Web site and mailed in. Prospects may register before their birthday if they will be 18 years old by election day (November 2). Registrations are due by October 4.

As a result of the new election consolidation laws, registered voters in Alpine Township will vote in the same precinct location every time they vote. Please check your voting location on your ID card.

The Federal Help America Vote Act (H.A.V.A.) has provided funding for new standardized voting equipment for the entire State of Michigan. The new equipment is an updated version of the current optical equipment that Alpine voters are familiar with and have been using for several years.

Your questions or concerns about voting can be directed to the Clerk's Office.
